Solar Powered Motion Lights

 Solar powered motion lights are infinitely more useful than electrical motion sensor lights.

Being able to place, and move, the light to the place where it is needed without having to worry about wiring is priceless.

Great uses for solar powered motion lights

Use it to light the path between your barn and the house, put a light on the dock so as to get some light for when you return with the boat after dark. Illuminate walkways on your property, protecting from slips and falls in a very inexpensive way.

Place a light at the door where your cat or dog enters and exits. The light will become a doorbell of sorts. Placing a few lights in the back yard will also let you keep an eye on your dog when he goes out for the evening toilet visit.

Quality of Solar Powered motion Lights

The quality of soar powered lights tend to be a bit questionable at times. Frequently there are problems with the solar battery stopping to work, the light coming on sporadically, or the unit only working for a short time before quitting all together.

These units can be a bit more expensive than the electrical units. Having the light cease to function after a few months (a common complaint with some of the brands) can become both costly and irritating.

Another frequent complaint is that the light is faint, a fraction of the amount of light from an electrical lamp. (This could be the result of a cloudy day, and not be a problem with the light itself) The faintness of the light making it more or less useless if one is more than 25-30 feet away.

Solar Powered Motion Lights Receive Mixed Reviews

The fact is that many brands do receive a so-so review, if even that, from online customers. One of the more popular brands seem to be the "Solar Powered 15 LED Security Light and Motion Detector" (no affiliation) and it is quite reasonably priced as well.

Personally I would probably do the research online and then purchase the light(s) locally in case they need to be returned. Lowes and Home Depot have excellent return policies, and these lights *tend* to be a it more problematic than electrical motion sensor lighting so why not make it simple to return the unit if needed?

That said, the solar powered motion lights are a dream when they operate properly, adding to a sense of secutiry, great functionality and peace of mind. And let's not forget the aspect of using the light as a doorbell for your dog or kitty!
